Sucker Punch Rejected Geek Rage Contender for Worst Movie Ever

Sucker Punch Rejected Geek Rage Contender for Worst Movie Ever

by Amelia G : March 29th, 2011

sucker punch

When the Sucker Punch billboards first went up in my neighborhood, I felt conflicted. It seemed, on the face of it, to have a decent checklist of things I would like in a movie, but I instinctively lizard-brain hated it. Upon reflection and now that the uniformly negative reviews of the movie are in, here is the problem with media like Sucker Punch.

I might be a little unusual, a little bohemian, artistically-oriented, and a bit disenfranchised. Sometimes the nail which sticks out gets hammered down. Anyone who is a bit different from the norm has most likely experienced being hammered down at some point. (Disclaimer: I would point out that I am about to post a spoiler, but it is impossible to spoil a movie as cynically bad as Sucker Punch.) It doesn’t take an insightful genius to figure out that someone with purple hair might not have sailed through life 100% effortlessly, but having others attempt to hammer one down is not what makes an unusual person interesting. Sucker Punch panders to victims and tries to sell their victimhood back to them. Being unusual doesn’t mean you should embrace victimhood. Ew.

The gist of the movie is that this altporn-looking chick is unfairly institutionalized and scheduled for a lobotomy, in order to rob her of her birthright. So the altporn-looking chick fantasizes that she is actually some sort of stripping prostitute and not a mental patient. Then, when her stripper whore held prisoner in a brothel fantasy gets too sexually specific, she fantasizes that she is a hero in a video game. She is given a quest. Her questmates are raped, tortured, and/or killed. Then the altporn-looking chick hero is lobotomized. But, see, she is still free in her fantasy life, so it is a happy ending. Because chicks, especially alt-y looking ones, cannot change anything or make any kind of difference, even in their own lives, but fantasy can ease our pain.

Uhm, seriously, fuck you, Zack Snyder. Fuck you and fuck the cynical studio that backed this travesty. I note that opening weekend grossed less than $20 million, so I sincerely hope that Sucker Punch’s $82 million dollar production budget is a fiscal sucking chest wound.

It is unusual to find a movie with as consistently terrible reviews as Sucker Punch. It is amusing to . . .

Gothic.net Party Red Carpet Pics

Everyone at Gothic.net HQ West Coast Division is still recovering from Saturday night. The party to celebrate the newest Gothic.net site design was a smashing success. Luminaries in attendance included writers Maria Alexander, Gram Ponante, and Richard Dean Starr, dark artists Forrest Black, Carlos Batts, and Tim Sin, nightclub impressario Tricia LaBelle, superstar Blue Blood beauty April Flores, Blue Blood costume babe Diana Knight, OG Blue Blood model Daniel Ian Essex of the Astrovamps, media mogul Amelia G, and a rogue’s gallery of other cool creative people. Party-goers enjoyed the giveaways generously provided by BOOM! Studios (including exclusive pre-release copies of their new Clive Barker Hellraiser comic.) The bands The Tragic Tantrum and Mather Louth and Radio Noir and deejays John C & Amanda Jones kept it spooky and fun all night long. Check out the pics from the red carpet, shot by Tim Sin and Amelia G for your viewing pleasure:

Nineteen Eight hour countdown to the Gothic.net party tonight! </p>

A few more kickass things:

The event is 18+ (not 21+), which means you only have to be eighteen-years-old to attend. One of the reasons for holding the party at this venue is that they are extra-cool about this.

Blue Blood’s Forrest Black and Amelia G will be doing a digital gallery show. The artwork projected on the walls will be portraiture of many denizens of the dark and fabulous, some of whom will be in attendance.

BOOM! Studios has given us a ton of great books giveaways. There is stuff from a number of their darker lines, including the 28 Days Later series, the Cthulu Tales series, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, and . . . [drum roll please!] issue #1 of the new Clive Barker Hellraiser comic. That’s right! Clive Barker is doing a new Hellraiser story in comic book form. There are multiple cover designs, one with art by Clive Barker, one with work by Tim Bradstreet, and one by Nick Percival. The Hellraiser comic books are not available in stores until Wednesday, but a couple dozen lucky Gothic.net VIPs are going to get a copy of issue number one at the Gothic.net party. Clive Barker + Hellraiser + issue #1 = a very cool collectible . . .

Luci in Devil Horns with Rats - Super Cute Rats (PICS)

This is the 5th collaboration between yours truly and Forrest Black and Luci which has appeared in the Blue Blood VIP. Full series in the members VIP as always. Luci makes a lot of her own clothes and has two of the cutest pet rats ever. Shooting Luci was great and I love shooting artists like her.

Darenzia Dominates Scar 13 (PICS)

We shot this series of Darenzia, wearing her hot pink rubber dress, dominating Scar 13, on the same balcony I watched the Griffith Park fire from. Please cue all necessary hotness puns. You've got fire, how hot Darenzia is, how hot Scar is, the color hot pink, and fire to work with. I know I said fire twice; I like fire.

This set marks Darenzia's 36th appearance in the Blue Blood VIP and Scar 13's 97th. That is 1,900 photos of Darenzia and 6,743 of Scar. That is a lot of hot pictures by Forrest Black and yours truly, as well as a who's who of other cool photographers, including Lori Mann, Kelly Lind, Chad Michael Ward, Christine Kessler, and more.

PS Lots of sample free nude fetish Dareniza pics in the Blue Blood Contributors blog under her tag. Ditto for lots of sample free nude fetish Scar 13 pics.

Crash and Voltaire (PICS)

I just posted this to Gothic Babes and thought I'd share here too:

Because a few sets of my photographic work generally post every week (not even counting the tons of other photographers Blue Blood publishes), I always want to post more here. So, today I'm going to post a favorite image from two sets Forrest Black and I shot, one of Crash and one of Voltaire.

Info about the clothing designers and all that good stuff in the Blue Blood Contributers Blog, along with TONS of FREE SAMPLE PICS. Both of these are magazine shots, but four full sets of Crash and a fabulous twenty-two full sets of Voltaire are in the Blue Blood VIP now.

PS If, in this terrible terrible economy, there is anyone still getting paid to slack off at work and read LJ, nobody who actually works for a living (or wishes they had a job now) wants to hear any whining about NSFW in a community already tagged as adult.

Backstage Passes Gets Good Press from Erotica Readers Association and is a Dark Delicacies Bestseller

by Amelia G : December 31st, 2010

As the year draws to a close, I am pleased to share that Backstage Passes has been a Dark Delicacies Bestseller. Dark Delicacies is perhaps the most famous horror books store in the world. For those of you in Southern California who would rather pick the book up in person, you can stop by the following address for a truly remarkable selection:

Dark Delicacies
3512 W Magnolia Blvd
Burbank, CA 91505

Kathleen Bradean, writing for the Erotica Readers & Writers Association, writes:

Stories like these still have the ability to confront and arouse. They may take you beyond your comfort zone. If the erotica you’ve read lately seems a little too safe, this is the anthology for you.

Amazon and Barnes & Noble online both have Backstage Passes on super sale for the end of the year. Check out the book links at Blue Blood Books for some great deals. Thanks everybody and have a great New Years!

Los Angeles Noir (PICS)

These palm trees and city lights, under a menacing sky, are the view from my balcony in Hollywood right now. This shot only begins to show the roiling black clouds, like a powerful wizard is about to do something unusual to Los Angeles. Went hiking earlier today with Forrest Black and got totally soaked. The park was so empty and beautiful. There was one rugged soul out there with a camera on tripod trying to shoot the fog. And one woman in really nice boots, not shoes for walking in mud at all, much better suited for neon-lit and preferably not rain-soaked streets. My own personal, delightfully damp Los Angeles noir.

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Repealed

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Repealed

by Amelia G : December 18th, 2010

It has been a really really really good news week.

First of all, the military’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy, or DADT, was repealed. For those of you who have been living in a cave, because you hate our way of life, DADT was a Clinton-era piece of legislation. DADT was designed to make it comfortable for everyone for homosexuals to serve in the military. The idea was basically that there would be no discrimination, but there would also be no pride parades or other flaunting of sexuality to disturb the sensibilities of the apparently sensitive US troops.

Alexander the Great had sex with both men and women and he managed to conquer Afghanistan. But I digress.

At any rate, the DADT policy tended to be enforced as, if a man of woman didn’t manage to serve in a 100% closeted way, like if anyone could figure out their sexual orientation and it wasn’t 100% straight, then gays and lesbians would get the boot. So it is good news that DADT has been repealed. Ya know, because it was poorly conceived, useless, and immoral. Just that. Otherwise, it was awesome.

i want you for the us army uncle sam poster

I do wish that the coverage of the repeal was less partisan. You can see the precise breakdown, of who voted which way and who blew off voting on . . .

Happy Birthday Forrest Black BOOM Holiday Party

Happy Birthday Forrest Black BOOM Holiday Party

by Amelia G : December 13th, 2010

If you are in Los Angeles and looking for something to do tonight (or just interested in stalking me), I plan to be at the BOOM Comics holiday party at Meltdown Comics this evening.

BOOM Holiday Party 2010 Meltdown Comics

Beforehand, I am going to learn to make red velvet cake because it is Forrest Black’s birthday. Red velvet cake has all sorts of weird non-cakelike ingredients. These include, but are not limited to, buttermilk, vinegar, and cream cheese. Everyone wish Forrest Black a happy birthday . . .
